Introducing our Summer 2024 Interns

Welcome our Summer 2024 interns: Abe Streator, Cayden Pohlman, and Rebekah Porter. Abe will serve as the Marketing and Communications Intern. He is an incoming junior at Indiana University where he is studying History. Abe enjoys playing board games, watching movies, and is an avid basketball fan. Cayden will serve as the Program Development intern. He is an incoming junior at Ball State University where he is studying Professional Selling. In his freetime, Cayden enjoys golfing and hanging out with friends. Rebekah Porter is the Creative Content Intern. In this role, she will aid in the creation of photographs and videos for social media, in addition to assisting with A Summer of STREAM camps. Rebekah is an incoming senior at Indiana University-Bloomington where she is pursuing a degree in Public Relations with a minor in Sports Marketing and Management. In her freetime, she enjoys reading and hanging out with friends.

Save the Date: Emerge: Young Innovators Summit

On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Genesis will be hosting the first Emerge: Young Innovators Summit at Ivy Tech in Lawrenceburg! This event is designed to empower local high school students with insights from our community’s seasoned entrepreneurs, strengthening their business acumen and igniting their entrepreneurial spirit. During the Summit, students will also attend breakout sessions covering a variety of business topics ranging from marketing to communication etiquette to business legalities to finance and leadership.

This opportunity is available to all students enrolled in a business and/or entrepreneurial class at Dearborn, Decatur, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley County high schools. For educators that wish to participate, the Young Innovators Summit offers PGP points and a platform to engage with entrepreneurs throughout our community, allowing you to inspire our next generation of innovators.

Celebrating the Future Leaders of the Hoosier Workforce

The Governor’s Work Ethic Certificate is awarded to Indiana students who have proven that they possess the soft skills and work ethic desired by employers. We are proud of the 14 students from Jac-Cen-Del High School, 3 students from South Ripley High School, and 11 students from the Southeastern Indiana Career Center who are recipients of the certificate this year.

Students are measured on five subjective skills which include persistence, respectfulness, teamwork, initiative, and efficiency. They must posses a minimum of 6 hours of community service, an attendance rate of 98% or higher, at least a 2.0 GPA, and no more than one disciplinary referral. All 9 areas of academic and work ethic competency must be met for students to obtain the certificate during their senior year of high school. The 28 students from Ripley County receiving this award are promising and dedicated young individuals and we look forward to seeing them reach their goals.
