STEM Summer Camps Happening this Month

The Genesis Team is happily anticipating the arrival of Nine13sports this Friday at the Tyson Activity Center for Kids Building Bikes Camp. During camp, students will learn about rider safety skills and how to build a bicycle. We would like to thank our sponsors for making this camp possible: Global Atlantic, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, McDonald’s of Southeastern Indiana, Ripley County Community Foundation, Ripley County Court Services JDAI, and the United Way of Franklin County.

Beginning one week from today, Future Ready Robotics Camp will be taking place at the St. Louis Catholic School Activity Center. Students will learn how to build and program a robot, receive an introduction to New Game, and compete against one another during the challenge, “Pitching In.” We would like to thank our sponsors for making this camp possible: Amack’s Well, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, Purdue IN-MaC, Ripley County Community Foundation, and Ripley County Court Services JDAI.

STEM Professional Development Training in Knoxville, Tennessee

The Genesis Team spent a couple of days at Camp Webb in Knoxville for STEM Professional Development Training. Camp Webb, located on the campus of Webb School of Knoxville, offers a wide variety of week-long summer camps during the months of June and July. Camps range from sports, science, arts, cooking, technology, math, and theatre, while there are also specialty camps that include Camp Hogwarts and Star Wars Camp.

While touring the facility, we learned about what it takes to plan an entire summer full of various and exciting STEM camps. Allison Hodges, the Executive Director of Camp Webb, was such a fun tour guide and gave us lots of tips on how to prepare for next year’s BIG Surprise in Ripley County!

Mental Health Grant Received From Ripley County Court Services JDAI

Genesis: Pathways to Success and East Indiana Area Health Education Center recently received a grant from Ripley County Court Services through their Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI). The funding of $16,133 will help to provide additional Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainings to educators in Ripley County.

A Brief Update on Perseverance

NASA’s Rover, Perseverance, landed on Mars back in mid-February to explore potential life on the planet, including past signs of microbial life. Since its landing, the rover has captured over 100,000 images of the planet and recorded its first audio recording.
