Creatively Tackling the Challenge to Build a Lunchables
In September of last year (2022), the Rube Goldberg Institute for Innovation & Creativity announced its partnership with Lunchables by releasing the task for 2023’s Rube Goldberg Machine Contest: Build a Lunchables. Lunchables appeal to the masses as a fun lunch and snack option, but there are a lot of varieties out there. Cheesy pepperoni pizza? Ham and cheese crackers? How can someone build a machine to Build a Lunchables? That is what this year’s teams had to figure out.
An in-person contest will be happening this year at Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Two divisions will be participating in the 12th Annual Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, hosted by Genesis: Pathways to Success. Division I (Middle School) teams include Batesville Middle School, Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School, Salem Middle School, and St. Louis Catholic School. Division II (High School) teams include Batesville High School, Oldenburg Academy, and the Ripley County Engineering Academy (Jac-Cen-Del High School). These teams will compete live at the in-person contest using their creativity and innovation skills to demonstrate how they used found or discarded items to Build a Lunchables.
“The amount of time and effort that these students put forth into creating these inventive machines demonstrate each team’s creativity and ingenuity as they collaborate to overcome the challenge that is presented to them with this year’s competition,” said Clarice Patterson, the Director of Genesis: Pathways to Success. Patterson further stated, “The challenge to Build a Lunchables asked the teams to think outside of the box since there isn’t just one way to build a Lunchables, and with a task that has such a broad definition, students were put to the test to make something truly innovative as well as entertaining.”
We hope that you come out and cheer these teams on as they compete with these complicated machines. Doors open at 10:00 AM, and the first machine runs will begin at 10:30 AM. It is free to attend the contest thanks to a variety of local sponsors.
