The Wizarding World has invaded the quaint town of Oldenburg, Indiana this week during Genesis: Pathways to Success’ Camp Hogwarts as local youth learn key soft skills with a magical touch.

WAVE Mobile Aquatics Exhibitions led by the Newport Aquarium were brought to Ripley County bringing about joy and learning.

Creating the brain of a robot put Future Ready Robotics Camp students’ brains to the test this week.

The Sky was brought a little bit closer to earth through Genesis: Pathways to Success’ Stargazing with Astronomers, a fun and co-curricular activity led by the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery.

As a part of the A Summer of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics), Genesis put on The Science Behind Cooking Camp. The students left with cooking and baking knowledge, new friends, and full stomachs.

A Summer of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, & Mathematics) kicked off in Ripley County this week with Kids Building Bikes Camp in Milan. A total of 8 students worked in a mobile bike lab where they assembled their very own bicycle and were taught about bicycle maintenance, rider safety skills, and rules of the road.

A Summer of STREAM camps and activities are not only fun, but they are beneficial to our youth because they help to build and enhance soft skills. These skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, creativity, and teamwork.

The Great STEM Bike Ride continued with Kids Building Bikes this summer, a program offered by Nine13sports that teaches kids how to build their own bike and more. Read about how the program impacted 8 Ripley County students.

Genesis' STEM summer camp, Future Ready Robotics Camp, took place recently with a total of 33 students who learned to build drivetrains, plows, hooks, and catapults to prepare for the 2021-2022 VEX IQ Challenge. The camp was designed to teach students how to build, operate, and compete with robots in hopes to inspire them to join their school robotics team.

For the 2020-2021 school year, 29 students from Jac-Cen-Del and South Ripley High Schools earned the Governor’s Work Ethic Certificate.

The 2021 Rube Goldberg Machine Contest was held on April 10th at Jac-Cen-Del High School, and the results are in!

Clarice Patterson, the Outreach and Communication Liaison of the Ripley County Community Foundation, will step-up and serve as the new Director of Genesis: Pathways to Success.

The Great STEM Bike Ride will build enthusiasm for STEM as students learn about the bicycle, its design, how it’s manufactured, and its impact on the body, mind, and spirit. After a long and unprecedented year of the pandemic with few opportunities for out-of-school field trips or events, we believe this event has encouraged, uplifted, and inspireed both students and teachers in Ripley County.

After 13 years, Cheryll Obendorf has decided to step down from the Director’s position of Genesis: Pathways to Success. Although she will still continue to consult for the Ripley County Community Foundation, she will be dearly missed.

The 2020 local Maverick Challenge was a huge success as nine teams participated in the competition at Oldenburg Academy on Friday, December 8th. Seven of those teams were from Oldenburg Academy and one was from Jac-Cen-Del High School.  Each team pitched an entrepreneurial idea about an innovative product they wish to bring to life. 

The Ripley County Community Foundation received one of the #LSNLeadForward Community Grants for $2,500.00. The grant will be used to assist in the expansion of developing additional modules for the Mental Health / Trauma-Informed Virtual Training that will focus on Social Emotional Learning, Trauma, and Stress & Anxiety.

Ed2Go courses from the Indiana Virtual Academy are still available to help you become certified in various tactical fields. This month’s highlighted course: Speed Spanish.

All within a week’s span, Rube Goldberg Inc. has announced the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest task for 2021 and partnered with a global organization to bring students a digital Rube Goldberg Machine via a video game.
